Pop Art is an art movement that emerged in the 1950s and flourished in the 1960s. About Pop Art Link. This form of art would generally be photos, drawings, or paintings that resemble every day life and every cultural traditions. Some examples of every day life would be: consumer product labels, celebrities, comic strips, animals, etc. I feel like pop art fits into New Orleans very well, due to the city being so diverse. Pop art expresses beautiful designs drawn from mass media and popular culture. Federico Lopez, the artist that stole my attention away was born in Spain during the mid to late 19th century. He studied drawing and painting at the Escuela Permanente de Adultos San Carlos from 1995-2001 in Ontinyent, a Valencian community in Spain. As of today, Federico Lopez is still a working artist in Spain. Federico Lopez Biography Link. Federico Lopez, in my opinion created some of the most amazing pop art I have ever seen. During my prerequisite courses for nursing school, I was lucky enough to be able to take an art course. Learning about art during that time was something I found very interesting which was a good reason for why viewing the art galleries was exciting for me. As I walked around the art gallery, I stumbled upon a man sitting behind a desk. Talking to a worker at the Sutton Galleries on Royal Street in New Orleans, I learned that Federico loves to use color therapy. Utilizing the brightest colors and bold brush strokes, Lopez created beautiful images mainly of famous people from the past and future. Some art displayed in Sutton Galleries were the Rolling Stones, Lennon, and Michael Jackson. Below I have attached a link to view more of Federico Lopez artwork!
