January 2nd, What I've learned?

Inner Journey #2, January 2nd 2020

Okay, blog followers… The time has come, I am leaving for New Orleans TODAY!! Am I excited? Am I nervous? All of the above??? I guess we will find out soon! With all the emotions filling my body as the adventure to New Orleans begins, I am overall grateful to be on this journey with my fellow classmates and instructors. It is exciting yet very nerve wrecking meeting a whole new group of students and traveling over 800 miles south to a new city. My excitement though kicks in when I think about all of the intriguing information I will learn and how at the end of this journey I will be able to express with you, my blog followers how New Orleans, the city of music, dance, nightlife, football, voodoo, and much more speaks to me.

One thing many of you don’t know about me is I get extremely motion sick…. Wait what?? Peyton Shreffler, the travel girl gets motion sick?? The answer is yes, YES I DO! For as long as I can remember, motion sickness has always been a traveling struggle of mine. Whether it's a car, a boat, or a spin carnival ride, the same disturbance of the inner ear happens resulting in an abundant feeling of nausea. According to an online source, the symptoms of motion sickness appears when the central nervous system receives conflicting messages from the sensory systems: the inner ear, eyes, skin pressure receptors, and the muscle and joint sensory receptors. Causes of Motion Sickness Link. To explain that in further detail, the inner ear can sense movement of all forms, whether its an up and down motion, a left and right motion, or a spinning motion. The inner ear then sends signals to the brain, mean while the eyes are also picking up motion of sitting still and or not moving. The confusion between the two signals is what causes motion sickness to occur.

With that being said, I have attached a link to a website that has been helpful to me to overcome my motion sickness during my traveling days. Whether I use calming techniques like deep breathing, or taking medication, here are some tips that could help those fighting with motion sickness with me. Motion Sickness Remedies Link.
