Music, Experiences
Outer Journey Music, January 8th 2020
Jazz, bluegrass, hip-hop, country, or rock in roll, all music is accepted, played and admired in the city of New Orleans because of its complicated colonial and racial history. While walking around the city's French Quarter streets, a diverse population surrounded me. People of different race and people of different ethnicity, packed the streets, exploring, touring, and experiencing New Orleans amazing every day life traditions. Citizens on every street corner played different forms of music in which they used to express themselves and celebrate life in ways they couldn’t before music was around. Their smiles shined brighter than the sun. Their outfits all correlated to the theme of their music. The movements of their body, shifted and rocked to the beat of the rhythm. Amazing sounds blared loudly as I turned each corner. Dramatic, fast, drumming stimulated excited within me. The feeling of wanting to dance and sing all night rushed upon me. The clarinet, tambourine, and the saxophone, once all separate instruments, played together in a graceful harmony. It was music to my ears. My heart filled with joy. My eye fixated on the older women playing music on Royal Street alone. The women was smiling. The women was laughing. The women was doing what she loves. The passion, the drive, the confidence radiated. With every breath blown between a single reed and the mouthpiece, a beautiful fluent sound bounced of the street buildings. Pressing each metal key with her fingers of both hands, notes very quickly changed creating a mellifluous melody. My body mellowed, as I sunk into a relaxing state. In this moment, I loved New Orleans.
