January 4th, Experiences

Outer Journey #4, January 5th 2020

Drag here in New Orleans is celebrated and respected just as much as any other form of art. From the music, to the exaggerated outfits, to the sensational energy that fills the room from wall to wall. Witnessing a drag show is a life changing experience. Walking into the Golden Lantern, was much like walking into an average bar. The front room was small and lined with red leather chairs that wrapped the bar snugly around each corner. The shelves behind the bar were shocked with bottles awaiting their chance to be poured. Walking further into the building the room widened up, creating a greater space for entertainment. The lights were dim to highlight the elaborate stage decorated with vibrant colored drapery. Both warm and cold tones of light directed ones attention to the act taking place on stage. The women on stage wore dramatic makeup that resemble a palate of rainbow water colors. Their piercing bedroom eyes looking deep into one souls longed for acceptance and love. The extraordinarily long and thick eyelashes placed heavy weight on their eye lids captivating the audience’s attention. Dresses clinging tightly to their bodies, defining their barbie doll figure, shined as bright as a disco ball struck by beaming lights. The energy through their body movements radiated seduction and confidence. Bold and fluid movements flowed through each limb of their bodies drawing imaginary pictures through the air. Their lips mouthed the lyrics of each song perfectly and effortlessly. The memories and imagine of this night, I will never forget.
