Preparation for NOLA

Outer Journey #1, December 14th 2019.

Hello and welcome to my first outer journey blog post!

As I am sitting here writing this blog, my mind is racing at 100 mph thinking about all the things I have done and the many things I still need to do. If anyone knows me personally, they know I have a soft spot and guilty pleasure for traveling. I have been to California, Nebraska, Utah, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Washington, Florida, Mexico, Iceland, and soon to be Louisiana and Barbados. I have also been to many national/state parks and forests such as Yosemite, Crater Lake, Sawtooth, Redwood, Shoshone Falls, Balanced Rock, and many more... With that being said, I am excited to add Louisiana to the list of my travel experiences.

Currently as I'm writing my first blog post, I am in Boise Idaho visiting my boyfriend before the holidays begin. While sitting in the living room on the couch, the room is quiet, the fire is burning, the air is warming and the dog is sleeping but my mind is racing. When looking in my environment I picture my home, a place that's full of laughter, full of love, a room that I can relax in at the end of today.

Starting December 19th, my boyfriend and I will be traveling down to Utah, where we will meet his family for some snowboarding and vacation fun! The drive will be filled with snake cut roads through the mountains winding in and out like a zigzag line. The sun over the moutains in the distances paints a watercolor perfect picture. December 23rd, we will be traveling through Nebraska, Wyoming, and Iowa on our way back to Illinois to spend Christmas back in both of our hometowns of Pekin Illinois. The drive is 23 hours and feels never ending. Spending Christmas Eve and Christmas with friends and family, I am preparing myself for 5 straight days of work at the emergency department in Pekin as a technician following the holiday's before my next travel adventure begins. As you blog followers are reading, you're probably realizing, I am a busy, BUSY girl which indeed I AM! Not only am I busy, I am a total organizational freak to say the least!! To prepare myself for all the upcoming travel events, I stay organized through making check lists. Check lists allowing me to put my thoughts down on paper as well as see my accomplishments when writing check marks next to each task.

Before the journey to New Orleans begins, each student was assigned a group in which all members of the group worked together to create a E-Travel Blog on a specific topic about New Orleans. My group was assigned the Minority Populations E-Travel Guide. Other groups were assigned topics which included: Music, Art, Religion, Architecture, Catastrophes, and History. January 2nd the day of departure to New Orleans, my group along with the other groups will present our topic to help educate us on the city we will experience the week to come. The Minority Populations E-Travel Guide group consisted of myself, Mindy, Lauren, and Paul. I was in charge of the creating the blogs overall theme and homepage, as well as the diversity page and pirates page. While researching my subtopics of minority populations, I was intrigued with the amount of information found.

Packing for the New Orleans trip is something I am most stressed about. I might consider myself an experienced traveler, but I definitely slack in the department of....... OVER-PACKING!! As I look at the weather for the next few weeks in New Orleans, the temperature ranges from low 50's to high 70's, as well as rainy to sunny. With that being said, I am planning to pack a wide variety of clothing choices as I want to be as comfortable as possible for the week's trip and adventures!
The best way to begin packing is to choose everything that will be necessary for the trip before sticking it in the suitcase. It is best to clear off a space on the bed to lay out my items for the best whole view. By doing this one can reevaluate the necessity of each object twice in relativity to the space he or she has. The puzzle of how everything must fit in those tiny bags is the hardest part.

As I wrap up my first outer journey blog post, I hope you, my follows are exciting to take this journey through the city of New Orleans with me. Oh and I can't forget to my mention, I'm going to miss my dogs!!!
